Caution:
Monitoring in the Czech Republic ended with the end of the project COVMON 2021-2022 and the internal grant VÚV for 2022 at the end of December 2022.
Current data on the objective incidence of covid-19, based on the amount of its specific marker in wastewater, can only be obtained from data from other European countries where wastewater monitoring continues.

Current status for WWTP Brno (September 2024)
The prognosis of the onset of the COVID-19 disease, detected at the end of August 2024, was confirmed by the sharp increase in the amount of SARS-CoV-2 viral RNA in the wastewater at the inflow to the Brno WWTP at the end of September 2024. The detected amount is higher than in September of last year.
Current status for WWTP Brno (5 September 2024)
After the decrease of high values accompanying the autumn wave of covid-19 disease in 2023, according to the results of wastewater monitoring from the Brno WWTP, in the spring of 2024 there was a complete decline in the incidence of SARS-CoV-2 RNA in the population. After the summer decline of the disease, a slow re-emergence was found out at the end of August 2024, which is a forecast of the autumn wave of the disease.
Current status for WWTP Brno (29 April 2024)
In March and April 2024, SARS-CoV-2 RNA values continued to decrease to values at the level of the detection limit of the method.
Current status for WWTP Brno (29 February 2024)
The values measured in 2024 showed a significant decrease from the autumn maximum, which confirmed that SARS-CoV-2 was not, as in the beginning of 2023, the main cause of the epidemic wave of respiratory diseases recorded in the beginning of 2024.
In February 2024, continued the decrease of RNA SARS-CoV-2 values in wastewater.
Current status for WWTP Brno (31 January 2024)
2024: The January reading showed a significant decline, indicating that SARS-CoV-2 is not, like last year, the main cause of the current respiratory disease epidemic.
2023: After the January decline, there was a resurgence of SARS-CoV-2 RNA levels in February and March 2023 with a peak in March, followed by a decline in the summer period and an expected fall increase with a peak in December 2023.
Currently (16 January 2023)
The amount of SARS-CoV-2 RNA in wastewater in December fluctuated at the level of tens to hundreds of GE/1ml at smaller WWTPs (Břeclav, Kladno) and hundreds at WWTPs of large cities (Prague, Brno), i.e. at a lower level than in the autumn months. Compared to the previous waves of the epidemic, the real incidence of the virus in the population corresponded to orders of magnitude higher numbers of infected people than the clinical tests showed. Control samples taken on January 10, 2023 at the Brno and Břeclav WWTPs showed a significant decrease in the amount of the covid-19 marker in the wastewater. The number of people tested positive also decreased. Wastewater confirms that the current epidemic of respiratory diseases is not caused by covid-19.
Currently (16 December 2022)
The current situation at the beginning of December shows an increase in the amount of the covid-19 marker after its decrease at the beginning of November at the ÚČOV Praha a ČOV Kladno (Vrapice). The amount of SARS-CoV-2 RNA in wastewater in smaller WWTPs (Břeclav, Kladno) is at the level of approx. hundreds of infected persons, in large WWTPs at the level of approx. thousands of infected persons, i.e. the real occurrence of the virus in the population is theoretically an order of magnitude higher than shown by clinical tests. The number of people tested positive increases slightly at the turn of November and December.
Currently (13 December 2022)
The current situation is confirmed by the decrease in the incidence of the covid-19 marker since the second half of October at the Prague WWTP and the Kladno WWTP (Vrapice). The number of people tested positive increases slightly at the turn of October and November. Not updated: At the Brno and Břeclav WWTP, the values of the covid-19 marker in wastewater are decreasing after the increase at the end of October. The latest November data point to a process of stagnation (stabilization of covid-19 marker values) on all lines WWTP.
Currently (25 November 2022)
The current situation shows a continued decrease in the incidence of the covid-19 marker at the Prague WWTP and the Kladno (Vrapice) WWTP since the second half of October, which is accompanied by a decline in the number of positively tested persons. At the Brno and Břeclav WWTP, the values of the covid-19 marker in wastewater are decreasing after the increase at the end of October. The latest November data point to a process of stagnation (stabilization of covid-19 marker values) on all lines WWTP.
Currently (23 November 2022)
The current situation shows a continued decrease in the incidence of the covid-19 marker at the Prague WWTP and the Kladno (Vrapice) WWTP since the second half of October, which is accompanied by a decline in the number of positively tested persons. In Brno and Břeclav, the values of the covid-19 marker in wastewater are decreasing after the increase at the end of October.
The results of wastewater monitoring, in the following graphs, are compared with the verified numbers of positively tested persons, from the ISIN system, continuously processed by the Department of Biostatistics of the NIPH for specific monitored locations.
For the possibility of comparing the most up-to-date wastewater monitoring results, for the current period (from the beginning of July 2022), freely available data from covid maps or publicly accessible websites for individual cities are used (currently https://obce.nery.cz).
Data on the amount of viral RNA are given in GE (genomic units) in 1 ml of wastewater. The trend line of the values in the graphics is created using a moving average.
Actual results are published within 7-14 days after sampling.

WWTP Brno:Control samples taken on 10 January 2023 at the Brno and Breclav WWTPs showed a significant decrease in the amount of the covid-19 marker in the wastewater. The number of persons tested positive also decreased. The wastewater confirms that the current epidemic of respiratory diseases is not caused by covid-19.

Comment (25 November 2022)
WWTP Brno: After a decrease at the end of August 2022, there was an increase during September and October to the highest values so far. However, the ratio to the number of positive tests persons has been inverse since the beginning of the summer, i.e. the virus is present in the population, but does not significantly affect the population's health condition. The October values indicated the end of the next wave and the gradual reduction of the amount of the covid-19 marker in the wastewater. At the same time, the number of positive tested people is also decreasing. At the end of October, an increase in the amount of the SARS-CoV-2 marker in wastewater was detected, followed by a further decrease. The November data is showing stabilization (stagnation) of the covid-19 marker values.

ÚČOV Praha - SVL (current) and NVL (new water line): In October 2022, an autumn epidemic wave was caught in the wastewater, which was no longer accompanied by the occurrence of a significant number of clinical cases. The current situation shows a continued decrease in the incidence of the covid-19 marker, which is accompanied by a decrease in the number of positive tested people.
