Open Day

The T. G. Masaryk Water Research Institute (VÚV TGM) held its traditional Open Day on Tuesday, June 23, 2026. The morning program was dedicated to schools, while the afternoon session was open to the general public. Approximately one hundred people attended the event. Visitors had the opportunity to tour selected specialized departments of the institute and learn about the diversity and importance of research concerning water and the aquatic environment.

Guided tours introduced visitors to selected areas of VÚV TGM’s activities. The program showcased the work of experts specializing in fields such as water quality, the protection of aquatic ecosystems, laboratory analysis, and other topics related to water management. Demonstrations and accompanying activities were also prepared for school groups, allowing children to explore the aquatic environment in a fun and accessible way.

Once again, the event was symbolically linked to Danube Day, an international initiative highlighting the importance of protecting the aquatic environment within the Danube River Basin. This allowed visitors to learn not only about the work of VÚV TGM but also about the broader significance of caring for water as a shared natural resource.

The Open Day is an opportunity for us to show the public that water research is not a remote academic topic, but a field that directly impacts quality of life, nature conservation, and responsible water management.

Lecture for students of the Arabská grammar school

11 May 2026, Prague (Czech Republic)

On Monday, May 11, a lecture on the issue of invasive crayfish and crayfish plague was held for 25 students of the Arabská grammar school as part of a science field exercise. Signal crayfish were demonstrated in the common room of the Apollo campsite near Lednice. Students were educated on how to use the “Crayfish in the CR” application to report crayfish findings and how to behave in nature to minimize the possibility of transmitting crayfish plague.
